Laying down SCN for something new
Southampton Christian Network has been functioning in one form or another for over 30 years. It has been a vehicle for church unity and community engagement that has been held up as an example for other cities.
We have felt for a while that there is one season coming to an end and another season beginning. As we celebrate all that God has done through SCN we lay it down in order to allow the Holy Spirit to shape something new.
What is the Holy Spirit inviting us into? There are some things that we see:
- We all want to see the Gospel of Jesus impact lives and whole communities. Being and making disciples of Jesus is our number one priority.
- The church is the family of God. We are joined together by the Holy Spirit. All of us (especially leaders!) need the support and care of our brother and sisters. Our unity is the sign that we are Jesus’ disciples.
- The church is a movement of the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who moves out in fulfilment of the great commission, even to the ends of the earth.
In view of this we know that
- We need each other – for reaching the city and for the care of our souls.
- We need Holy Spirit – to reveal his plans for reaching the city and to heal and revive our inner being.
We believe that the Holy Spirit is inviting us on a journey to deepen our relationships that will cross cultural, ethnic and denominational divides. The quality of the relationships between church leaders is crucial for the outworking of our united mission.
The SCN steering team have a suggestion for a way to begin this journey and we need your input. Please think this over and come and share your thoughts on the 16th.
