The SoHOP Community

The House of Prayer is a praying community of Christians from a range of churches in Southampton.

It is not a physical prayer room. Nor is it an alternative to church – everyone involved remains accountable and connected in one of the many churches in Southampton.

With the help of 24-7 Prayer and support of local church leaders a group of people passionate about prayer began our journey together in 2018. We met together each week to learn and pray and ask God how to set up the house of prayer. We hosted our first prayer room from January 2019. In November 2020 we were welcomed into the 24-7 Prayer family and commissioned to serve Southampton in prayer.

SoHOP has a small leadership team connected in with 24-7 prayer. We are led locally by Richard Pitt who is supervised by the leadership of City Life Church.

The community continues to meet together to discern what God is saying about the development and direction of the house of prayer.

We meet to pray together every Wednesday and (some of us) meet online at 9.45pm every evening. We are listening to the Holy Spirit to try to understand what He is saying to us about how to pray for the city. You are welcome to join us! (more details…)

If you would like to join the community, please contact us.

Governance

We are part of the 24-7 network, which is relational rather than organisational.

Our activities in Southampton are supervised by City Life Church, and we are covered by their policies and procedures, including their safeguarding policy. Our expenses are also managed through City Life, and any donations towards running the house of prayer are held by them.
